Felon always sucked as a candidate and as a kingmaker. He lost the popular vote in 2016 and won the electoral college by a few thousand votes in key electoral areas. He lost to Biden in 2020. The red wave in 2022 didn’t happen, largely because the Republicans ran weird unqualified MAGA kooks like Doug Mastriano for governor and Dr. Oz for Senate in Pennsylvania, Hershel Walker in Georgia, and Kari Lake in Arizona, people Felon endorsed.
I also believe another part of it is America is tired of the negative shit that threatens people’s freedoms and well being as well as the rigging of our system that is coming from the Republican Party. They are tired of hearing about other people’s sex lives, genital status, and who should use what toilet from their elected leaders who should be focusing on other things. They are sick of religion being mixed with government and it being used as a tool to legislate against groups of people. There are lots of Christians who are bothered by the misuse of their beliefs by these Taliban like people. Women are pissed that they have to fear being pregnant and that old, uptight men who couldn’t pass a junior high school biology class are telling them they have to risk their lives and well being if they get pregnant, even down to whether they should have access to birth control. They are tired of book bans, lies about drag queens and LGBTQ people. They are tired of the the outsized attention being paid to trans people who are .000001% of the overall population, and who aren’t asking for that attention. They are sick of these underwear sniffing weirdos sticking their noses into their fertility decisions, decisions on where they should pee, and deciding whether they can get birth control or not. They are sick of a corrupt Supreme Court whose members take millions of dollars of right wing billionaire money when the average government worker can’t even accept a fast food lunch from people they work with, who apparently have no concept of what recusal is, and who makes decisions that are out of touch, upending basic American ideals, and are causing harm to people—you don’t have to be a constitutional lawyer to know that Court is seriously out of whack and that their decisions are utter bullshit, just have a high school knowledge of what the Constitution says and the basic idea of what America is supposed to be. They are sick of women hating talk like childless cat ladies running the world and if you aren’t a parent you don’t matter.
But with Biden out of the race, the base revved up. They came home. They decided they would show up to vote after all. People who have never volunteered for a campaign are signing up to help and donating. And that is now blowing the race open. And Harris, being younger, more attractive, more coherent, and more energetic is a big reason for the excitement. And her coming close to making history as the first woman of color to become President is no small thing either. She’s even attracting some people from the Republican camp like “white dudes for Harris”. Next to her, Felon is old, tired, and crazy. He’s an shambolic wreck who nobody believes will last another four years in any kind of decent shape, and much of America thinks he should be in jail. And he is looking worse by the day.
Biden wasn’t making the case. He wasn’t speaking to an America that needed and wanted a leader to voice the above. Biden is a decent, compassionate man. But he failed to read the room. He failed to realize he needed to really go after these weirdos who were threatening to make life unpleasant for a large swath of America.
i think it has to be understood that the American people by and large don’t like Felon45. Before the debate, which unleashed the chain of events we have seen over the last couple of months, Biden and Felon were in a dead heat. Poll after poll taken prior to the debate showed that voters did not want a Biden and Felon rematch.
Harris and Walz radiate positivity and hope, and know how to speak to people. They are voicing the things about MAGA Amierica wanted to hear. Walz has pegged these people accurately: weird people who need to mind their own damn business, and he is going after them. They are giving voice to what people have been thinking about MAGA for years, and giving hope that we can finally fix the MAGA problem.

Felon wasn’t more popular than Biden. He hasn’t grown his base at all. Biden’s base was shrinking: they were threatening to either stay home, vote 3rd party, or to a lesser degree, voting for Felon. The most common complaint against Biden was that he was too old. That complaining got louder after the debate. Democrats were not excited about voting for him. Young people didn’t want to vote for an 80 year old man who was looking every bit his age, they were tired of old people staying in power. Some folks were mad about Gaza and threatened to sit out as well.
